Reaching Into the Past for a Hand

Cut to a few months ago, when I came across this rolled up, slightly ragged finished piece in my folks basement. Unrolling it, I found the drawing I had made 20 years before. It felt a bit like opening a time capsule. It also did the same thing it did all those years ago. It gave me an idea...
(This is the original, 1994 version)
That idea was to remake what I saw 20 years ago, but how I saw it today. So here is the fruit of both of those days. 12 year old Ev, and 32 year old Ev collaborating on one piece set in two lives. "Going back" isn't always a bad idea. Im going to try out a color version soon. Stay tuned for updates.

Bram and Gary and Winona...but not Keanu.
No need for explanation. I love this movie. Saw it in theaters as a kid. Now I have my own poster version. HA! I was up watching this movie, and I had (in the past) been trying to come up with a Dracula piece that I liked. Unfortunately nothing I had come up with really pleased me. It all looked so regular, so like many other overdone ideas: moon, castle, red...whatever.
This, of course, lead to me taking the notebook and scratching out something. I started to get somewhere just on a whim. Keep in mind, this all took place around 2AM. Soon I was off and running and knew exactly what I wanted, and how to do it. Around 4AM the poster above came out of the "oven" and I fell out of my chair fast asleep.

Hero's in a Half Shell, Another Art Show!
Here is "The Rat King"! From the "Turtles in Time: TMNT 30th Anniversary" show at Bottleneck Gallery, from October 2014.
Minor Throwback to a Throwback...
Here is a piece I somehow did not post up in this world of blog, done for the "8 Bit and Beyond 2" show in Brooklyn, NY. This is from one of my favorite Nintendo jams "Fester's Quest". Its easy to love a game derived from "The Addams Family", and even easier since it was a completely bitchin' game pitting Uncle F against an alien horde to save his loving kooky family.

ERASERHEAD
Locally (within Philadelphia) there was a David Lynch show. David Lynch had spent some time going to PAFA, which eventually became The University of the Arts, which eventually I went to. SO, David Lynch was the subject of a group show at the NEWER version of PAFA thats not UArts (stay with me). I heard about this show rather late, and so was not able to be a part of it. However, I immediately had the exact idea for this piece, which has turned out simply as it was in my head.

...And Inktober 2014 Gave Birth to something.
Stemming from my introduction to the sketches of Inktober 2014 and 2014, I present some pieces that did, in fact, start from those simple sketches. In any artists studio there are a myriad of paper scraps/cardboard/trash, any of which eventually becomes a "canvas". These all began as the hard-backing within Amazon.com-sent packages, and simply would not make their way to the trash can. These three are untitled pieces, all part of the package called "Windows".

Inktober 2014
Once again, Inktober has passed. This year my contributions were both more involved, as well as more off the cuff and loose than last years sketches. Also, this year has brought me more attention and kind words from so many talented artists, friends, family, and folks passing surfing the seas of other Inktober posts.
Though I am not pleased with all these sketches, I love them all and feel like I have grown within the work. The years pass but they change (thankfully). This Inktober feels like an accomplishment and a setup for some new ideas, new artwork, and my first "selfie" (probably no more of those).
